Guards and Appliances

Protect your teeth! Wearing a guard is a proactive step taken to protect your existing, healthy teeth. Guards are made for a variety of purposes, for all ages and are custom-made to fit your teeth. At Marketplace Dentistry, our guards are made from Bisphenol-A (BPA)-free and phthalate-free materials.

‚ÄčNightguards

Clenching and grinding of teeth can cause severe and long-term tooth, jaw and facial-muscle pain and result in unnecessary wear on teeth. Patients who are clenching and/or grinding their teeth may be prescribed a nightguard, if appropriate, which is generally worn at night, while sleeping. A nightguard is custom-made to fit over the teeth to prevent the lower teeth from clenching or grinding against the upper teeth. If you are waking up with headaches or tension or pain in your teeth, jaw or face, talk to Dr. Lewinger to find out if a nightguard could be beneficial for you.

Sports Mouthguards

Do you or your loved ones play contact sports? Anybody participating in a sport with a strong likelihood of contact with the mouth (including soccer, hockey, football, wrestling, rugby, basketball, martial arts or even recreation sports such as in-line skating, skateboarding and bicycling) should wear a sports mouthguard when practicing or playing to reduce mouth-related injuries and concussions.. A sports mouthguard is a durable appliance that is custom-made to fit over teeth and gums to protect the mouth and absorb and redistribute forces generated by traumatic blows from contact sports and recreational activities.

The construction and design of sports mouthguards may all seem very similar but, in fact, the various types of guards that are available each provide both different features and varying degrees of mouth protection. Ask Dr. Lewinger about which solution and manufacturing technology is best for you.

Sleep Apnea/Snoring Appliances

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder characterized by abnormal pauses in breathing or instances of abnormally low breathing, during sleep. In certain circumstances, a custom-made dental appliance can improve sleep quality, help treat sleep apnea and reduce or relieve snoring. Talk to Dr. Lewinger to find out if these appliances are right for you.
