Since poor oral hygiene is the main cause of gum disease, it is important to practice proper oral care routine. Brush your teeth and use dental floss at least twice a day. Be sure to clean your tongue gently as well. The use of antibacterial mouthwash can also help eliminate bacteria that can cause plaque and gum problems.
3 Easy Steps to Fight Gum Disease Naturally
- #1 Use Salt Solution
Rinsing with saline solution is considered an effective way to cleanse the mouth and kill the bacteria which are the main culprits of gum disease.
To make your own saline solution, mix a tablespoon of table salt in a cup of lukewarm water. Use the solution as a mouth rinse, gargle for a minute or two and spit out.
- #2 Oil Pulling
For many years, oil pulling is believed to be a potent natural way to cleanse the mouth and keep gums and teeth healthy. The oil has excellent antibacterial properties to kill the bacteria and heal gum problems.
You can use a tablespoon of coconut oil, sesame or sunflower oil. Swish around your mouth for a few minutes. Be sure to spit the oil out and rinse with warm water.
#3 Baking Soda
With its antibacterial properties, you can use baking soda instead of toothpaste to fight gum problems naturally. Mix baking soda with water until you can form a paste. Apply in your gums or use the paste to gently brush your teeth. Be very careful though since baking soda can also be abrasive.
